The Filming Process

Our filming techniques have slowly developed throughout the project through the process of trial and error. For example, we initially tried to shoot some of our clips free hand (without the use of a handle or tripod) but found that this was unsuccessful. We filmed most of our shots this way but then when reflecting upon what footage we had we realised that it wasn't effective as the camera shook, making the shots look very amateur and unprofessional. Unfortunately we lost a lot of crucial time through doing so as it would have been more beneficial if we had previewed our footage earlier before shooting most of the scenes this way. We decided to use these clips as test footage- a rough guide/basis in which we could follow, improve on and compare to various reshoots. We then repeated the shots with the use of a tripod which steadied the movement of the frame. However, upon repeating the shots we made the human error of forgetting the prop of the backpack- fortunately this worked in our favour as it made the most important and symbolic prop (the mobile phone) more visible to the audience, therefore resulting in the decision to not use the backpack. We did in fact come across some difficulties when locating our props as the backpack did not arrive in the correct print as ordered (floral) and the smashed iPhone that we could get hold of was white- unlike the black iPhone featured in our main shots.
