Signs

Charles Saunders Peirce (an American philosopher and founder of modern semiotics) proposed that signs could be defined within three categories:

• Iconic- a sign in which resembles something and is widely recognised
• Indexical- a sign in which has a direct link to the meaning
• Symbollic- a sign in which has no logical link to the representation and it's meaning
