Equilibrium and Disequilibrium

Todorov was a theorist who published work on the ideas behind narrative; he suggested that narratives begin with an equilibrium in which all potential opposing forces and disruptions are in balance, creating a sense of 'status quo'. According to Todorov, it was suggested that conventional narratives are structured in five stages:

  • A state of equilibrium (stability/balance)
  • Disruption of the equilibrium (inducing a chain series of events)
  • Recognition/acknowledgement of disruption
  • Attempt to repair the disruption
  • Reinstatement of the equilibrium (new)

Taken:
State of equilibrium/balance: FAMILY AT AIRPORT

Disruption: ABDUCTION

Recognition/acknowledgement: THREAT

Attempt to repair: MANHUNT TO FIND DAUGHTER

New equilibrium: FINDS HER- BRINGS HER HOME

The Call:
State of equilibrium/balance: NORMAL DAY

Disruption: KIDNAPPING

Recognition/acknowledgement: 911 PHONE CALL

Attempt to repair: TRYING TO TRACK/LOCATE DISTRESS CALL

New Equilibrium: MURDERER GETS FOUND- GIRL SURVIVES

  1. There is still so much missing. Where is the animatic for example? Please look through your work and review what needs to added to your blog. Come on Lily!
